When I was 22 years old, I moved from California to Boston by riding a greyhound bus. I gave away all my belongings (my music, my books, my art) because I was only taking 3 bags with me. As a result, I have none of the art I created during those earlier years. Luckily, one of my college girlfriends has kept one of the paintings I gave her and a few days ago she took a photo. Blast from the past!

Roger Casanova - The Artist

For my birthday this year I treated myself to some art from Roger Casanova, whom I've been enamored with since the first time I stumbled into his shop. When my package arrived, I was squealing in delight!!! Not only are his art pieces created with passion depicting loving embraces but the package itself was mailed with such care, such l♥ve! It took me a bit to get them framed but now that they are, I couldn't resist sharing! Take a looksie!

Encassed in heavy, sturdy cardboard were these little beauties,
wrapped in tissue paper and tied with ribbon in lovely thick portfolios:

I framed them in black frames showing a white gap

(and enclosing his portfolio covers because they were mounted so beautifully with what looks like torn-edge, I hear its called "deckle edge" a bit hard to see in the photos)

Wispy hair frames an expression unreadable by passersby while leaves crunch under feet anxious for homecoming. Her scarf reminisces a delicate fragrance meant to charm senses and intertwines with the crisp Autumn breeze. She’s almost there…

…and Tucked Away becomes part of my home, part of a collection that represents the beauty artists are ALWAYS able to eloquently reveal. Vibrant-colored emotion captured by my dear friend, Boston, now occupies a wall once unadorned. If I could somehow translate what it is to be owner of this piece of art, I’d happily write pages and pages but alas, we haven’t the space or time. Incidentally, if I claimed I wasn’t biased to this particular artist, my pants would thoroughly catch on fire!

Nevertheless, I confidently commend Ms. Misty on this rather exquisite piece of art. Packaged safely, eagerly received, it’s with pride I continue to promote her work!

Water Games

I've done something silly to my wrist... it's not broken, I dont think its fractured or sprained but I might've pulled a muscle or something. Which means it is difficult to write or draw, so I have been relaxing it for a few days. Therefore, instead of something new to share, I'll share what I was playing with last week...

I did this with prisma pencils

And since I didn't have time to color the background I played with color digitally (I don't know a thing about Photoshop, I use a basic painter called Irfanview).

Same with this girl, dancing in the rain... lots of rain here lately!

Next week I hope to have more to share! :)

What do you dream about?

I sleep a lot a lot a lot.
I ♥ my bed!

I probably sleep more than the average person and would sleep more if I could!

The only problem with my sleeping is that I dream a lot a lot a lot, probably more than the average person. Sometimes my dreams haunt me, I have a lot of nightmares. My Psychology of Sleep and Dreams professor told me creative people are prone to nightmares. Maybe I should be satisfied with that concept, but my nightmares still plague me.

I’ve created this as a girl who is sleeping/dreaming… but in reality it’s me daydreaming… about either being at home in my comfy bed or lounging on the beach. J

I ask the question again… what do you dream about?

Fire Dancers

Fire Dancer (poem by Jezibell)

She does not speak in words,
But in meaning.
She is radiant motion,
Leaping beauty.

Gold-clad and slinky,
She undulates with the flame,
Sparkling and crackling.

She is the gypsy Goddess,
The tireless traveler.
She appears where she is needed
To light,
To heat,
To heal.

She is joy!
Wide-eyed, bright-smiled,
Burning pure,
Dancing passion.
Even her tears are illuminations.

She spins within the worlds,
From the blazing burst of the comets,
To the fiery forge in the heart of the earth.

Yet she is as close as a candle.

Spiral Goddess Screw-up

I joined a new site called swap-bot and was excited to do my first swap... an ATC (or ACEO depending on who you ask). The website assigns you a partner to send to and when I looked at her profile, the swirl goddess came to mind so I set out doing a few cards... after I did 4 (two I was happy with, 2 I wasn't so sure), I sprayed fixative to finalize them and quickly learned that the ink I used did not go with the fixative I used. To my disappointment, the ink just bled all over the place. :(

This is the result of being self-taught. I end up spending more time agonizing over which mediums to use rather than what to draw. This has kept me in the art closet for way too long. In the past I would have been so embarrassed that I would not have shared this with you but I'm changing my ways. Okay self, so you screwed up, so what. Pick yourself up and try again. :)

I learned the colored pencils (first I used white then silver) did not work with this thick board (my lines look all fuzzy since I had to work to engrave them):

the ink lines were sharp and though the card might seem plain like the first, the design was growing on me.

then spray made it look like this (ew)

I could not wait to get my hands on her and fill her with color!

Then spray made her look like this (more ew! and a sad face!)

This was actually the first card I did but saved it for last because it was the one I decided to trade.

Even though its not as perfect as I wanted it to be, I still liked it. I matted it, included some of my art cards and mailed it off today (let it go into the universe).

Bye bye spiral goddess. Hopefully the next time we meet I will treat you as a better muse!

(what a fantastic and fun whirlwind) and quickly realized that EVERYONE had a blog here. Mine was on livejournal and while some could leave anonymous comments, if they wanted to get more involved with me and my blog (following, leaving more comments) they had to have a livejournal account too. Since 99% of the people already had a blog account here, they weren't going to go to livejournal, so I'm coming here. :)

The transition feels funny though...

Not only that, I'm going to lose all my friends that look for me on livejournal. :(

I've been anticipating this switch for a few months though, so I'm hoping it will go smoothly.

Hello all,
I am participating in a worldwide blogging event between January 30-February 17.
It is a fun and creative way for people to share blogs and introduce themselves. In addition, it is also a giveaway with 'door prizes' in each blog!! :)

Before I tell you about my door prizes, I'll tell you a little bit about myself. I am currently 35, live in Boston and have been a shy closet artist for most of my life because I was always afraid my art wouldn't be considered "good enough"... I would cringe at criticism and the most negative comments would crush me so deeply that I wouldn't do any art for long periods of time. The past few years have changed that. Thanks to the encouragement and support of people close to me along with the wonders of the internet, I am becoming more and more confident in sharing. So here I am. :) I primarily use my blog to post my art pieces that I'm working on, so most posts are works in progress. I do enjoy feedback and am learning to accept negative comments as part of the process of being an artist.

I hope you enjoy your visit of my blog (though I am considering switching to blogspot, any advice/suggestions are welcome)! And if you leave a comment on this post, you will be entered for a door prize...

Another work in progress, as you can see, I've inked the lion and have the remaining to do, although I'm having a tough time deciding on staying black/white or adding color..

Aum (also Oṃ, written in Devanagari as ॐ and as औम्, in Sanskrit known as praṇava प्रणव [lit. “to sound out loudly”] or auṃkāra (also as Omkāra) ओंकार (lit. “auṃ syllable”) is a mystical or sacred syllable in the Indian religions, i.e. Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism.
Aum is commonly pronounced as a long or over-long nasalized close-mid back rounded vowel, [õːː]) though there are other enunciations pronounced in received traditions. It is placed at the beginning of most Hindu texts as a sacred incantation to be intoned at the beginning and end of a reading of the Vedas or prior to any prayer or mantra. The Māndukya Upanishad is entirely devoted to the explanation of the syllable. The syllable is taken to consist of three phonemes, a, u and m, variously symbolizing the Three Vedas or the Hindu Trimurti or the three stages of life ( birth, life and death ).

Aries Commissions

I promised a friend last October that I was going to complete a commission for her.
She asked for astrological drawings for each of her family members for Christmas.

I had good intentions and started them, but then the creative wall started crumbling down around me and I put them aside for months.

Fast forward to today.
May 2009.
Her twin brothers are graduating and she is spontaneously flying over several states to spend two days with them... soon one of them is going into the military. It would mean so very much to her if she could take the drawings with her.

With little notice (2 days before her flight) I managed to finish the two drawings for her twin brothers and the one for her father. Thank you Christina, for giving me the nudge of strong masculine Aries. :)
